Admiralty & Maritime Law

Admiralty and Maritime law is the law of the waterways, which includes activities wholly based on land that concern marine activities. The scope spans both regulations and offenses, both domestic and international, governing the relationships between private entities which operate vessels on the oceans. It also covers marine commerce, marine navigation, shipping, sailors and the transportation of passengers and goods by sea. Admiralty and Maritime Law does not include the Law of the Sea, which is public international law concerning navigational and mineral rights, jurisdiction over coastal waters and international law that defines the manner and relationships of nations concerning marine activities.
